Continue Reading...SEE pictures showing the fallen bridge across Nkankezi River in Filabusi, Matabeleland South.
An old bridge along Masvingo-Mbalabala road collapsed and was partly washed away by Nkankezi River in Filabusi on Sunday night.
No casualties have been reported so far.
Motorists were earlier today forced to use the Gweru route to go to Gwanda and the same route from Zvishavane to Bulawayo as the road was rendered impassable by the disaster.
Images captured by citizen journalists show the impassable road as stranded people look in shock.
By 9pm yesterday, the bridge had already partially collapsed. In the morning it was totally impassable.
Most parts of the country, particularly the Southern region have been have been inundated with torrential rains in recent weeks, and rivers have crested past their banks, leading to hundreds of evacuations in areas such as Tsholotsho, Matabeleland north and Bulilima, Matabeleland South.
