‘We Are Forced To Donate $1 Towards Mugabe’s Birthday Gig’

SOME teachers in Bulilima in Matabeleland South  —  the province which hosts President Robert Mugabe's 93rd birthday bash have sensationally claimed that they were being forced to donate cash towards the event.

A teacher based in one of the schools  —  which we cannot be named — to protect the source sent this report on condition of anonymity.

I AM a teacher in Bulilima (Plumtree). We have been told to ‘donate’ US$1 towards President Robert Mugabe’s birthday party to be held in Matopo.

Actually, we were told two weeks ago – by the (Acting) District Schools Inspector (DSI) – Mrs E. Ncube at a meeting in Plumtree town. The announcement was made to school heads. The meeting was attended by various local government departments including the President’s office.

A few days after the DSI announcement, the local (Zanu PF) councillor (name withheld) came to our school (name with held) and instructed all teachers to donate one dollar ($1) towards the 21st Movement.

He said if some teachers do not contribute names will be recorded. If everyone cooperates there is no writing of names.

Please publish this report but do not disclose my name because I might be in trouble.
