Floods Sweep Through Beitbridge As Heavy Rains Pound

Heavy rains crippled life across Beitbridge town on Thursday as heavy rains pounded the area continuously for more than five hours.

MATABELELAND SOUTH  —  A HEAVY downpour in Beitbridge early Thursday left several low-lying areas in the border town inundated forcing some people to vacate their houses in fear of floods.

The torrential rains which began almost a month ago in most parts of the country also threw traffic movement out of gear due to water-logging in most parts of the town.

The rains caused a chaotic situation with huge traffic blocks on many roads as some vehicles got stuck on muddy roads while some were swept away by the mini floods.

The Beitbridge Civil Protection Unit recently issued a flood alert following days of heavy rains in the area and some parts of Matabeleland South including Gwanda.

The warning was also reiterated by the Meteorological Department. However, no flood disasters have been reported in the province so far. — editing by Divine Dube
