Heavy Rains In Harare Impede Tajamuka Demo

TAJAMUKA/SESIJIKILE pressure group has dropped its scheduled demonstration pencilled for today yet again, under unclear circumstances although the group cited bad weather conditions as the reason for the cancellation.

PRESSURE group Tajamuka/Sesijikile dropped a planned demonstration earlier today due to 'heavy rains' in the capital, the group said later in a statement seen by The Citizen Bulletin

Below is the un-edited statement posted by the group on different social media platforms:

"Tajamuka wishes to inform members of the public and the press that the demonstration pencilled for today has been cancelled due to heavy rains that severely affected logistics and mobilisation.

We note however, that the police, true to their undemocratic tradition had already mounted, presumably to violently disperse a lawful and peaceful protest. We pledge to continue to pursue the right to peaceful protest as encapsulated in section 59 of our country's constitution. In that regard, our demonstration has been postponed to a later date.

Tajamuka will continue to stand with the oppressed constituencies in our country from vendors who face unjust evictions, teachers and civil servants under torrid working conditions, small scale miners under attack, students facing astronomically high fees, youths and women affected by abject poverty and unemployment, small holder farmers without security of tenure to the generality of our populace."
