"Tsvangirai Has Worked So Much And Is The Only Capable Candidate"

Morgan Tsvangirai should lead the opposition coalition because he has worked so much and is the only capable candidate, says his party.

MDC-T Vice President Nelson Chamisa over the weekend bolstered his party position that its leader Morgan Tsvangirai would lead the envisaged opposition coalition to remove ageing Mugabe from power in 2018.

Although a coalition leader is yet to be unveiled, MDC-T officials insist their president is the right candidate to challenge Mugabe. This is despite the fact that some pundits believe that Tsvangirai has the currency which he had in 2000 and 2008 when he fell short of dislodging Africa's long-time ruler from power.

Over the weekend, the party's second in charge, Chamisa, joined several of his party officials to vouch for Tsvangirai to be the coalition president saying the former trade unionist had "worked so much", adding that he was the only capable candidate to lead the envisaged coalition.

Chamisa who recently accompanied his boss to Kenya to meet that country’s opposition leader Raila Odinga said Tsvangirai had shared notes with [the] Orange Democratic Movement leader on how to deal with ‘electoral crooks’ in an apparent reference to Mugabe who is blamed for rigging Zimbabwe's elections since 1980.

Addressing party youths at a rally in Chitungwiza over the weekend, Chamisa claimed that they were no way Tsvangirai, the country’s longest serving opposition leader was going to lose the 2018 polls adding only him was fit to challenge Mugabe in the upcoming polls.

“What we know is that in 2018 whether the sunsets from the East or from the West, only President Tsvangirai will win.

“It’s not possible not to win. Because when one goes into the bush to hunt for a long time they eventually get what they want. No one who has persevered like Tsvangirai will fail,” said the Kuwadzana legislator.

Chamisa also attacked other opposition parties saying they wanted to steal from the MDC-T.

“We want you to be aware of other parties, that want to take the meat we have been hunting, beware of these," he charged.

All those that want to join come and join, Mai Mujuru come and join, Biti come and follow Save, Debengwa come and join Save, Mangoma come and join Save,” said Chamisa. Save is Tsvangirai's totem which his party stalwarts use to address him.

Ironically, Chamisa's statements come barely days after the National People’s Party(NPP) leader Joice Mujuru joined the Coalition for Democrats, a grouping of other opposition parties that have refused to be under Tsvangirai’s leadership.

The launch of the Alliance for the People's Agenda (APA) led by former cabinet minister Nkosana Moyo has also shaken the country's bigger opposition party by parliamentary representing as it fears Mugabe will benefit from vote split.

Although calls for a united opposition escalate each day, differences amongst the political parties also mount, casting a doubtful shadow over the possibility of a united opposition front.
